BIO
Carolina Smania – Fine Arts Photographer
Carolina Smania was born in Argentina in the city of Concordia, Entre Rios. Her father an engineer, and her mother an artist of multi media. Due to her father’s career, they were forced to move frequently. Carolina lived a nomad life from a young age.
After living all over in Argentina and Uruguay, her family moved to Mexico in 1990. In 1992, they relocated to San Pedro Sula, Honduras for a short time. Finally in 1993, her family moved to San Jose, Costa Rica, where she finished her high school years and college years. Starting with Architecture, adding later Photography.
During this time, Carolina was working as a waitress. When she found time to be alone, she would grab a hand full of napkins and start writing her thoughts in poetry. She has a saying: “My life written in paper napkins and my memories in silver prints”.
At the age of 26 she decided to see other parts of the world. Selling everything she owned, she found herself in Europe.
There she absorbed different cultures, enriching her life even more, although she was still searching for a place to call home.
In 2006 she enrrolled at Imval Centro de Estudios Audiovisuales in Bilbao, Spain, where she studied cinematography, web design and after effects.
Returning to Costa Rica in 2008 to finish her photography studies at Universidad Veritas. Her thesis work was based on her homeland of Argentina, where her roots were first torn. While on a wedding photo shoot, she met her soul mate. Shortly after, they were married and moved to her husband’s hometown in Lakewood, California.
Carolina says:
"Today, my goal has been set to work with women and kids in the process of alignment about the beauty of expression, timeless memories, and poetry in life. I am a foolish romantic and a dreamer."
